Your First Lesson Experience

First, lets start with you! Arrive a few minutes before your lesson begins. This will give you time to:

  • Check in at the front desk
  • Use the restroom
  • Relax in the waiting area

Next, you will experience:

The Greeting

Your teacher will come to the Reception area to meet you and your parent as the previous student exits.

Getting Acquainted

The first part of your lesson will be reserved for getting acquainted. Your teacher will want to know about your:

  • Previous experience (if any).
  • Your expectations, goals and dreams.
  • Current musical skills (she may do a few activities that will help her evaluate your innate and learned skills)

All of this will enable her to design a program that will fit your needs and preferences. Next your teacher will go over her expectations and give you further ideas for how to get the most out of lessons. If you're lucky, she might tell you a joke too!

The Lesson

  • Brand new beginners: your teacher will start with the basic building blocks of music, designing a personalized program that will make learning easy and fun for you. Be prepared to give her feedback.
  • Students with previous experience: your teacher will start with the repertoire and exercises that will enable you to progress from where you left off. Be prepared to give her feedback.

Together, you will also pick out music books to accompany your studies for the next several months. You will need to purchase these books after your lesson.

The Recap

Here, your teacher will review:

  • Today's activities
  • This week's assignment

This is a good time to ask any questions you may have.

Exit

Time to say goodbye and be ushered out as the next student enters.

Note to Parents - please be prepared to remain with your student during this first lesson. Your teacher will want to meet you, go over your child's musical background, explain her expectations, review what was covered in today's lessons and explain this week's assignment. You are an integral part of your child's success even if you don't know anything about music. Check out our Resource materials for helpful tips.
